XL GLOBAL DAY OF GIVING

The Global Day of Giving took place for the first time in 2006 to mark the XL group of companies’ 20th anniversary

In announcing the XL Global Day of Giving initiative in 2006, XL President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brian O’Hara said;

“We strive to be a principled corporate citizen by promoting employee participation, supporting local communities and
influencing industry-wide social responsibility”

Following on from the success of the inaugural Global Day of Giving in 2006 the board of XL decided to make the Global
Day of Giving an annual event which has become something which every XL employee looks forward to. In 2007 more than
2,500 employees took part in the second XL Global Day of Giving which took place on May 10th 2007. XL employees
participated in 238 individual projects in a total of 44 locations across the globe.

The time has now come for the Sydney team to plan their participation in the 2008 edition of the XL Global Day of Giving.
Through the diversity of the projects selected by our colleagues around the globe we have been motivated and inspired
to do something which will have a long lasting positive effect on our community. We are determined to make 2008 a very
special Global Day of Giving and have decided to work in partnership with the Oncology Children’s Foundation (OCF) in
meeting their 2008 financial targets.

In Australia more children die of oncology related conditions than any other disease. During 2006 over 700 Australian
children under the age of 16 were diagnosed with cancer, 30 years ago most children with cancer died, now 75% can
be cured permanently to live long and fulfilling lives. This dramatic improvement is the result of an increase in the
amount of funding being directed into research – after all today’s research is tomorrow’s medicine.

OCF is a not-for-profit Children’s Charity dedicated to helping sick and critically ill children suffering from the effects of
cancer, leukaemia and other serious cancer related illnesses. OCF is the only Australian children’s charity exclusively
devoted to raising funds for medical research into childhood cancers and is based at the Children’s Hospital in
Westmead, New South Wales. OCF is proud that 100% of the net funds raised by them are donated to the
Oncology Research Unit (ORU) at the Children’s Hospital. In 2003 OCF donated $70,000 to the ORU and by 2007 that
amount had increased significantly to $2 million. It is OCF’s goal to increase their annual donations by no less than
$1 million every year, over the next five years, meaning that by 2012 their annual donation could be as much as $7m.
